The entrepreneur and driving force behind Dilettante, Juliana left a career in journalism to work for many years in the musical instrument sector, specialising in product development and marketing. After earning a Masters degree in Arts Administration and Cultural Policy at Goldsmiths College, University of London, Juliana recognised that classical music and musicians were underserved in the digital environment. She founded Dilettante to support the genre through new media.
A Canadian exile, Juliana has been described as both ‘a force of nature’ and ‘a total nightmare’. Her soft voice and friendly manner suggest a far more compliant and gentle spirit than she possesses. In fact, Juliana resents authority and prefers to do everything her own way. Her pet peeves are irony and arrogance, and she loves her cat.
Having owned his first mp3 player in 1999, Matthew is a long-standing digital enthusiast who loves any technology that offers something new and exciting.
After graduating from the University of Manchester with a Bachelors degree in Ancient History, Matthew went across the pond to pursue his passion for music. He studied Recording Arts Management in Toronto and adopted some Canadian habits, although he would never say 'eh?'. He has managed artists from singer/songwriters to metal bands in both Canada and the UK, and has a passion for discovering unknown talent.
When Dilettante was conceived, we wanted a visual identity that would embody the company's values: modern, lively and sophisticated, whilst evoking the musical world in which the company is embedded in a fresh way. London-based designer Giles Dunn and his agency Punkt came highly-recommended, and delivered exactly what we'd hoped for.
Blonde Digital, our Edinburgh-based web partners, help us bring classical music to you, translating our vision and mission into a robust and sophisticated website. In 2008 and 2009, we worked closely with Blonde on a site re-design that enhanced functionality and improved usability. 'Dilettante 2.0' earned us a coveted spot on the Good Web Guide's 'Website of the Year' shortlist and took us into the next phase of our journey to bring classical music into the Digital Age.
