Founded in 1964 as a budget classical label and described in 2009 by the New York Times's Anthony Tommasini as "one of the most adventurous classical music companies of the last 50 years," Nonesuch Records has become, in the words of the Boston Globe, "an oasis of artistic excitement," with a broad mission that includes classical music, contemporary music, jazz, traditional American and world music, popular and alternative music, music theater and dance.
