Description
In E major, B. 44, composed in 1829; A flat major, B. 21, composed in 1827; E flat major, B. 46, possibly composed in 1829-30; E flat major (sostenuto), B. 133, possibly composed in 1840; and a minor, B. 150 possibly composed in 1843. All of these works were "discovered" and published long after Chopin's death. The first two are obviously student works and are conventional and undistinguished. The third and fourth are considered to be of doubtful authenticity, the third being particularly uncharacteristic and poorly composed. The a minor, not published until 1955, is more characteristic, but not in the same class of any of the waltzes bearing Opus numbers. None of these works really do Chopin's reputation any service. They should be disregarded by anyone but the most curious connoisseur.
We should note here that there was a waltz in B major, B. 166, dating from 1848 that was never published. The manuscript is now unfortunately lost. ~ All Music Guide
