Cantata, for organ, Op 26
Period: Modern
Genre: Keyboard Music
Keyboard The Polish composer Henryk Górecki wrote Cantata in 1968. As is typical of much of Górecki's music, it is in a religious genre: that of the Organ Cantata. This tendency to write in religious or older musical styles particularly nettled the Polish Communist Party, which saw older music as archaic and to be replaced by new musics. It shares several motivic and harmonic characteristics with Muzyczka 2, which he composed a year earlier. Canata won the 1968 Szczecin Composer's Competition and was premièred on 18 July 1969 by the Polish organist Kamien Pomorski. ~ David Cashman, All Music Guide
